Patterns Beneath the Tide

This coastal location in the Easter Ross Peninsula has always been one of those places that feels quietly magical to me. From the ground, it’s a landscape I know well, the estuary, the shifting sands, the wide open skies. But from the air, especially on an outgoing tide, it becomes something entirely different. The drone reveals shapes and patterns that you simply can’t see from below, and every flight feels like a rediscovery of a familiar place.

On this particular day, the tide was pulling back, carving out channels and leaving behind sweeping textures in the sand. As I lifted the drone and watched the landscape unfold beneath me, I felt that familiar rush, the joy of seeing the world from a fresh perspective. The sun sat low on the horizon, casting light across the estuary and turning the water into a ribbon of silver. Everything seemed to glow.

I found myself just hovering there, taking it all in. The patterns, the colours, the way the land and sea intertwined, it was a reminder of why I love flying the drone so much. It gives me the chance to see the landscape in ways that feel new, even in places I’ve visited countless times. And of course, I couldn’t resist capturing a signature panoramic image to hold onto the moment.
