Magic light

It was time for a break from the successful wildlife photography during the year.  It seemed like a very long time since I had done some serious landscape photography.  So we booked a wee holiday to the far north west to immerse ourselves in the rugged, harsh but beautiful landscape in Sutherland.  The weather did not quite go to plan as we would have expected for the time of year.  It was exceptionally stormy at times but we made the most of when the light and weather all came together.  Although I have been to Sutherland before. I had never visited Clachtoll beach, so this was my first time exploring this location.  So I did not know what to expect.  But we had a good explore of possible compositions and in the right conditions there are numerous.

On this evening, we were waiting for the waves to crash into the rocks.  Although it was cloudy and windy, we were hopeful of the sun peaking through a wee gap in the clouds low down in the horizon.  I could then see a rain cloud forming in the distance.  Then as if by magic the light from the setting sun caught the passing rain cloud and then bathed the rocks in gorgeous light.  This was the special light we were waiting for.  Which just lifts your spirits when it happens.  I knew we did not have long before the sun set, so I had visualised the scene as a stunning panorama.  This has to be one of my favourite landscape shots I have taken in a long time.  I will definitely be back to this location again.
