IMAGE OF THE MONTH

OCTOBER 2022

Tranquil misty morning

The autumn colour never really happened last year.  This year it more than made up for the disappointment of last year.  The peak of autumn colour came right at the very last week of the month, which thankfully I guessed right to take a week off work.  Over the course of the week we saw trees still turning, eventually turning golden then leaves dropping.  The winds were low, which was an added bonus.  It’s quite incredible watching the transition in such a short period of time.

I visit this location every autumn in the hope that you will capture something different.  Ideally I’m looking for calm conditions and enough water in the lochan to give some mirror reflections.  And enough of the silver birch dripping in golden colour, oh and maybe some atmospheric mist too.  That’s not too much to ask surely!

On arrival, it was still dark as the sun was just rising above the hills.  There was no wind, plenty water in the lochan, trees were dripping with colour, just needed some mist to finish the scene off.  There was mist forming in the glens, but not at my location.  Then about 15mins later here came the mist rolling in.  I knew it could be fleeting, so there was no time to waste.  This time, I opted for a different composition than I would normally go for.  I just loved the rich colours reflected in the water, so I had to include that in the scene and with the mist rolling through the trees, it created a very beautiful tranquil scene.
