Double Pot of Gold
I’ve photographed Arkle from Loch Stack numerous times over the years, always hoping to capture it in the perfect autumn light. This time, as we drove towards Arkle, we could see a weather front moving in ahead of us. It was a race to get into position quickly and wait to see what the weather would bring. When I saw the double rainbow appear, framed by moody clouds draped over Arkle, I knew I had finally captured the shot I had been dreaming of.
Arkle may be less known than its neighboring Foinaven, but it is no less captivating. Its fine, curving ridge of shattered quartzite makes it a visually fascinating hill. Next year, climbing Arkle is high on my list, and I am eagerly anticipating the views from the top.
This experience was a reminder of the patience and timing required in landscape photography, and how nature can reward those who wait.
