IMAGE OF THE MONTH

NOVEMBER 2025

In Black and Light

Each autumn, I pass this quiet hillside, always watching, always waiting. For years, I’ve hoped to catch it in just the right mood. But with milder Novembers, snow has become a rare companion, and the conditions I envisioned often slipped away.

This year, however, something shifted.

As we approached, the last of the autumn colour clung to the land, and dramatic cloud formations began rolling in from the west. The sun, low on the horizon, found a fleeting break in the sky, casting a soft, golden light across the distant hills. In that moment, the lone Scots Pine stood silhouetted against a backdrop of shadow and brilliance.

I knew instantly this image belonged in black and white. The contrast, the solitude, the atmosphere, it all came together to evoke the mood I’d long imagined. Ten minutes later, the light was gone. But we were there. At last, in the right place at the right time.
