The gregarious and quarrelsome Turnstones

While exploring the shoreline, I stumbled upon a lively group of Turnstones riding the waves atop a mass of seaweed. The light was absolutely stunning, highlighting the rich colors in their plumage and the vibrant hues of the seaweed. These sociable little birds often engage in frequent quarrels as they hustle about, turning over stones and seaweed in search of food.

In the top right of the frame, you can spot a male Turnstone still displaying some of its pale white summer plumage on its head, which will transition to a chestnut brown in the winter. The ever-changing light and colors make these moments truly special to capture.

This scene was a perfect example of how nature’s beauty can be both dynamic and fleeting, reminding me why I love photographing wildlife.
