Feed Me!

As I had not really observed the species much before, it was very interesting to sit and watch their behaviour. The adult dippers were working tirelessly feeding two chicks.  But sometimes the adult would come back with no food and still pretend to feed the chick. Of course the chick was not falling for it and would call begging for more food.  I presumed this is to encourage the chick to find it’s own food and the start of the chicks becoming totally independent. The chicks had a favourite, well hidden, secluded spot and would start to swim in the shallow part of the water looking for food copying the adults.  I think this new pair of fledglings will manage just fine with having excellent parents giving them the best chance for their start in life.
