Spot the Ptarmigan

While out for a leisurely walk in the Cairngorms, I stopped to admire the view before proceeding with my days walk. I was taking a couple of landscape images when a male ptarmigan popped his head just above the rock to see what was happening.  This image clearly shows the ptarmigans habitat. The following week I was back and fresh snow had fallen. This spring has been an exceptional challenge for these hardy birds. I hope they have a successful breeding season.
