Male ptarmigan taking flight

It was a stunning day to be in the hills.  This image was taken at the end of May, the female ptarmigans are now on their nests.  I came across this male ptarmigan without a mate perched on top of the rock, it was only when another male ptarmigan came into it’s territory it flew off to give chase.
