Beinn Eighe Mountain Trail, Torridon

A day off work meant an opportunity to get another hill walk in that I first attempted about 20 years ago with my husband.  I didn’t recall doing the whole circular route.  So I was long overdue to complete it.  My friend Gary was more than happy to join me and was a good introduction to the hills of Torridon for him.

The previous two days was full on winter conditions, with strong winds, snow and freezing temperatures.  So I prepared for the worst but the weather was glorious.  On the initial steep pull I overheated, so after losing a layer and taking on water, we pressed on.  I was not prepared for the epic panoramic view over to the ridges of Beinn Eighe. The nearer peak is Meall a’Ghiubhais.  The view behind, back across Loch Maree is the magnificent Slioch on the left with the dusting of snow on the peak.  We were both awe inspired and vowed to climb Beinn Eighe and Slioch in the longer summer months. With a swim in Loch Maree afterwards to help our tired legs!
