Beinn Eighe Mountain Trail, Torridon
A day off work provided the perfect chance to tackle a hill walk that I first attempted around 20 years ago with my husband. Back then, I don’t recall completing the entire circular route, so I was long overdue for a full round. My friend Gary eagerly joined me, making it a great introduction to the hills of Torridon for him.
The weather had been harsh in the two days leading up to our hike, with strong winds, snow, and freezing temperatures. Preparing for the worst, I was pleasantly surprised when the weather turned glorious. On the initial steep climb, I overheated, so after shedding a layer and hydrating, we continued our ascent.
The effort was well rewarded with an epic panoramic view of the ridges of Beinn Eighe. The nearer peak, Meall a’Ghiubhais, stood proudly, while the breathtaking view behind us spanned back across Loch Maree, with the magnificent Slioch on the left, its peak dusted with snow. We were both awe-inspired by the scenery and vowed to return in the longer summer months to climb Beinn Eighe and Slioch. A refreshing swim in Loch Maree afterwards would be the perfect way to soothe our tired legs!
This adventure rekindled my love for these hills and reminded me of the beauty and challenge that awaits in Scotland’s wild landscapes.
