Puffin with mouthful of sandeels

The puffin is my favourite little seabird and what’s not to like about them. They are full of character and charm.

It takes a lot of effort for the puffin to collect the sandeels at sea for it’s chicks.  The herring and black headed gulls also nest on the island and have their own chicks to feed and go for the easy option and chase the puffins to steal their hard earned catch. Thankfully this puffin made it safely back to it’s burrow and it’s chick would have had a good feed.

Photographing puffins flying towards you is no easy task but great fun, it takes a lot of patience and a lot of missed shots but when you nail it, it’s worth all the effort.
