Mountain Hare Leveret – Ring of Fire

It has been an exceptionally hot May in Scotland, so I have been taking advantage by getting out as much as possible.

This mountain hare leveret was only a few weeks old and as a result was very confiding allowing me to spend many hours in its company.  Gradually it grew in confidence leaving the safety of its burrow where it had spent the early weeks of its life.  In this image the leveret moved to higher ground to graze on fresh grass, fortunately for me this elevated position set the leveret in front of the setting sun giving this rim lit effect and warm colours from the rays of the evening sun.
