Ptarmigan flying through the snow

Conditions were not ideal heading into the hills as low cloud was forecast.  Visibility was poor making navigation a challenge and deep snow making walking difficult.  I love photographing birds in flight and trying to photograph a white bird against a white background is not easy.  I was photographing this beautiful male ptarmigan on top of a granite rock.  The ptarmigan are pairing off and he flew off when he saw another male bird coming into his territory, thankfully I kept my finger on the shutter and tracked his flight.  I was so pleased to find this image sharp when I got home.
