Cold Feet
Near Inverness, Scotland
Description
When establishing a site for the red squirrels, I decided I wanted another location nearby to attract the cresties. I always want to show the species I am photographing in it’s natural habitat which is in this case is amongst the pine trees, so I chose my location carefully to maximise use of the natural light coming into the site over the winter months. I wanted the area to be clear enough so that if there was any snow it would cover the trees. When it did snow, I had to take full advantage as with the milder winters it does not last long. The cresties are usually first to arrive on the scene so you have to be quick to get set up and grab your shots of them as they do not hang about for long and will land on a perch for a split second.
