Harvest Light: A Coastal Panorama at Summer’s End
Panoramic photography has always been my lens into the landscape—it’s how I see, feel, and connect with the natural world. But capturing panoramas from above, through the eye of a drone, has elevated that experience to something truly extraordinary.
This particular evening was a gift. The wind had settled, the clouds gently parted, and the setting sun cast its golden light across the sea. In the distance, rain clouds hovered over the horizon, and—just as the sun dipped low—a rainbow emerged, perfectly angled by the fading light. It was one of those rare moments where everything aligned.
The rugged coastline near Tarbat Ness Lighthouse, a place I return to often, was bathed in warm sunlight. The lighthouse itself is barely visible in the frame, yet its presence anchors the scene with quiet resilience. August here is a time of urgency and rhythm—farmers working tirelessly to bale hay before autumn arrives. The weather at the end of the month was unusually kind, and I wanted to honour that fleeting window of opportunity and the labour it inspires.
Using the drone’s wide-angle setting, I was able to capture a sweeping panoramic image that brings together all these elements: the dramatic coastline, the distant rainbow, the golden fields, and the quiet industry of the land. It’s a visual symphony of light, texture, and story.
This image is just the beginning. As autumn and winter unfold, I’ll be venturing out with the drone again and again—chasing light, weather, and the quiet magic that lives in the changing seasons. I can’t wait to share what’s next.
