The gregarious and quarrelsome Turnstones

I came across this group of Turnstones riding the waves on top of this mass of seaweed.  The light was absolutely stunning and really brought out the rich colours in their plumage as well as the seaweed.  They are very sociable little birds but have frequent quarrels when they hustle about turning over stones and seaweed looking for food.  You can see the male on the top right still has some of it’s pale white summer plumage on it’s head.  This changes to a chestnut brown in the winter.
