Dunlin probing the sand for food

Dunlins winter on the coast and breed on moorland. A small group of Dunlin appeared at the coast right at the end of August from their summer breeding ground possibly Caithness.  There is a small trace of darker feathers on it’s breast. Their summer plummage, with the black belly patch, is distinctive. In winter the breast is completely white.  They nest solitarily, at altitudes ranging from sea level to about 1000m in the Cairngorms.
