The striking yellowhammer
As the shorebirds I was photographing in the previous months had left for their breeding ground, all was not lost what to photograph over the summer months. The beautiful male yellowhammer with it’s striking yellow plumage, would perch on prominent song posts, from the tops of trees, hedgetops, fences and telegraph wires, singing it’s ‘little bit of bread and cheese’ song. This day was really windy, so faster than normal shutters were required to ensure the bird and the piece of gorse the bird would perch on was in sharp focus.
